Photographer Jim Hamlin Displays at Blink

Jim Hamlin is a photographer living near the town of Mesa on the Grand Mesa in western Colorado. He specializes in landscape photography, also shooting flower macros and wildlife. He has also worked as a wedding and as a studio photographer. Jim has traveled throughout the Western US and Canada, shooting pictures all along the way. He grew up in Georgia, went to college in Louisiana, and came to Colorado in 1980 to work at what is now Colorado Mental Health Institute at Ft. Logan in Denver. He moved to the Western Slope to live and work in 2006, and has only just begun exploring the beauty of this area and its many photographic opportunities.

Jim is a trained Mental Health Professional, holding a Master’s degree in Social Work from Tulane University and is a Colorado Licensed Clinical Social Worker. He worked for many years as a Social Worker and as a manager and administrator in public and private mental health and health care related positions. He is an active member of his community, serving on several volunteer Boards of Directors.

Jim and his wife Harriet have five children and three grandchildren. Harriet is his best “creative consultant” in his photographic excursions, with her keen eye for natural beauty and photographic framing.
Jim’s photography experience began in the Front Range and central mountains of Colorado in the early 1980's while living in Bailey and, later, in Conifer after his family gave him his first “real” camera, a Pentax ME Super. He was an early adopter of the new digital photo technology, moving to an Olympus C-2100UZ in the mid 90’s. He graduated into the Panasonic LUMIX prosumer superzoom line with a DMC-FZ10, an FZ20, and then the FZ50, which is his primary camera today.
He has had photos published on various web pages but is just beginning to build his photographer’s portfolio. The exhibit and sale at Blink Coffee is his first real foray into selling his work to the public. He will be a participant in the juried competition at the First Annual Flat Top Festival at Powderhorn Ski Resort in August.
