Kimmer Jenser artist of the Month
Kimmer High-Jepson
Statement
“Paint what you love. Love what you paint!”
I believe that every piece of work from an artist is a piece of his/her personal story waiting to be revealed. An eclectic collection of people, animals, events, and places in my life beg to be painted. In fact, they SCREAM to be painted!
Biography
Being the daughter of parents employed in the exploration drilling business, I was moved from town to town in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, California, Wyoming, Nevada, Mexico and even Chile, S.A. As always the “new kid” in class, I found common ground with other children through art. Instead of turning in written book reports, mine were always fully illustrated book reports. I must say that I have felt like an artist from a very young age. I have been fortunate to surround myself with others in my life that have always encouraged my fascination with it and have studied under some very great teachers who recognized my personal potential.
Although my nomadic childhood has given me the courage to visit far away places, it has also given me permission to make Western Colorado my adult home.
My medium of choice is pastels, however I do practice china painting, oils, acrylics, and watercolor.
Resume
My work is exhibited at the Blue Pig Gallery in Palisade. A current piece “And you thought our wines were tame?” was awarded the poster for the 2008 Colorado Mountain Winefest competition. Another piece, “Seeking Guidance” was the poster art used in the 2008 Hotchkiss Sheepdog Trials.
I am a member of The Art Colony in Grand Junction, and I teach pastel classes and workshops at The Blue Pig Gallery.
My work has received various degrees of awards in professional divisions of shows.
Personal
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management. My husband, Peter, and I own a packaging and promotional business, Kolorado Resources, Inc.. My artistic creativity has helped me in every profession that I have chosen throughout my life.
Peter and I enjoy riding our two horses, camping, riding our ATV’s, taking our boat to Lake Powell and spending long weekends at our cabin at Vega Reservoir. We work hard at our young business and take time to play. We love to travel and see parts f the world that are new to us or just to jump in our THING car and take an afternoon picnic on the Monument.
I pull from my artist’s statement and apply it to life:
“Do what you love…Love what you do!”

Jim Cox Photographer
Biography of Jim Cox
I was born and raised in Tacoma, WA, and graduated from the University of Washington
in 1971. Job wise, I spent 30 years at 3 different airlines, Pan Am, Continental, and
American as a Flight Attendant, retiring from American in December 2007. I am
married, and my wife, Toni Ray, was also a Flight Attendant, spending 36 years at TWA
and 4 years at American. She retired in May 2007. The 8 years I worked for Continental
I lived in Colorado, 4 years in Denver and 4 years at Vail. We married in February 1981.
From 1983 to October 2007, we resided in San Carlos, CA, about 20 miles south of
San Francisco. We moved to Palisade in October, 2007. We skied at Powderhorn
every February for about 20 years, which allowed us to decide that this was the area
we wanted to retire in.
Photo wise, I have been carrying a camera around since childhood. My brother tells
me we have one of the best documented childhoods of anyone he knows. The first
SLR I bought was a Pentax 500. My high school sweethearts dad, Chuck Gemmill,
was a professional photographer in Tacoma, and he was probably the single biggest
positive influence in my photo career. Working at his studio taught me camera
operation, lighting, composition, darkroom techniques, etc. I started making greeting
cards out of my photos in 1990, and had a number of retail accounts in the Bay Area.
Since moving to Palisade, Blink Coffee has been a big supporter for me. I currently
shoot with a Nikon D70S.
I want to first thank Blink, Natalie and Lori, for their wonderful support. And thanks to
all of you who buy my cards and photos to allow me to continue enjoying this wonderful
world called photography!
Sincerely, Jim Cox
